Foundry cigar box with two personal/sketch journals

$200.00

This is a cigar box made by the Foundry cigar company.  The box is titled "Elements Cobalt".  The box contains two compartments for cigars.  I handbound two journals to fit in these compartments.  Each journal is made using fine goat leather.  Each journal also has a red goat leather onlay of an image from the top of the box.

The journal with the gas mask is bound using a Coptic stitch which results in an open spine.  The journal lays flat when opened.  This journal has 160 blank pages and includes a dark line guide for writing in straight lines.  I used waxed Irish linen thread for the Coptic stitch.  Paper is 70 lb Mohawk Superfine paper.  This journal has a red goat leather onlay of the gas mask depicted on the top of the box.

The second journal with the nuclear towers on the cover is a traditionally bound journal using black goat leather with the red goat leather onlay.  It also has red goat leather end bands.  This journal has 160 blank pages of Mohawk Superfine paper.

There is a red ribbon in each compartment that is used to get the journals out of the box.

These journals were selected to be displayed at the Hand Bookbinders of California annual exhibition in San Francisco this past summer.
